Why Oracle Acceleron?

Oracle Acceleron helps customers get more from their cloud infrastructure by combining high performance networking, efficient data processing, resilient connectivity, and strong security. These capabilities work together to improve infrastructure efficiency, support demanding workloads, and help applications maintain performance as network demands grow.

High performance networking

Move data efficiently across demanding applications, databases, and AI workloads. Oracle Acceleron combines SmartNIC-based network acceleration with advanced networking technologies, including Remote Direct Access Memory (RDMA), to support high-throughput, low-latency communication.

Greater infrastructure efficiency

Free up CPU resources for applications by offloading networking and infrastructure functions to the Oracle Acceleron SmartNIC. Efficient network processing and expanded storage connectivity help customers make better use of their infrastructure.

Resilient networking

Keep workloads running through changing network conditions. Multiplanar networking, intelligent traffic management, and adaptive collective communication enable workloads to use available network capacity and reduce disruption from congestion and failures.

Oracle Acceleron technologies

Oracle Acceleron combines purpose-built hardware and advanced networking technologies to improve performance, efficiency, resilience, and security across OCI. These capabilities work together to accelerate data movement, simplify infrastructure operations, and support demanding applications, databases, and AI workloads.

    • The Oracle Acceleron SmartNIC consolidates networking, storage, and infrastructure processing into a specialized device, reducing redundant packet handling and improving bandwidth efficiency. Hardware-accelerated VirtIO, network virtualization, and hardware-enforced isolation help deliver high performance, simplify operations, and bolster security for OCI workloads.

    • Oracle Acceleron High-Performance Fabric extends Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) to supported OCI front-end compute, enabling high-throughput, low-latency data transfers with reduced CPU overhead. It supports demanding inference, storage, and HPC workloads, including cross-node inference cache transfers, NVIDIA GPUDirect Storage, and communication between GPU clusters.

    • Oracle Acceleron provides hardware-accelerated NVMe connectivity to OCI Block Storage, reducing the complexity of traditional iSCSI configuration and management. Expanded NVMe block storage attachments across supported compute shapes give customers greater flexibility to match storage performance and compute configurations to their workload requirements.

    • OCI's multiplanar networking uses independent network planes to provide additional capacity, path diversity, and resilience. Front-end multiplanar networking, combined with enhanced SmartNIC path selection, congestion control, and quality of service, allows workloads to use available network capacity more effectively and reduce disruption from congestion and failures.

    • Oracle Collective Communication Library (OCCL) improves distributed AI communication across OCI’s backend multiplanar network. By directing collective traffic toward healthier network paths and supporting failover when links or NICs fail, OCCL helps keep large-scale AI training workloads running through changing network conditions. It supports commonly adopted collective communication libraries, including NVIDIA NCCL and AMD RCCL.

    • OCI Zero Trust Packet Routing helps customers strengthen network security by controlling which workloads can communicate based on security attributes rather than relying solely on traditional network rules. Zero Trust Packet Routing Deny rules extend this protection by enabling customers to explicitly block unwanted communication, even when existing policies would otherwise allow it. Together, these capabilities help organizations enforce zero trust security, respond to emerging threats, and protect critical workloads while preserving legitimate application connectivity.

Introducing the Next Generation of OCI Compute Shapes

Donald Lu, Senior Vice President, Software Development, Oracle

As infrastructure costs evolve, memory efficiency, storage performance, and network performance now play a central role in overall workload price-performance. The cost curve now favors applications and workloads that use memory more efficiently. At the same time, memory and storage now account for more of total workload cost and value, while network performance has become a key workload differentiator.
